Introduction
Seasonal Forecasts of the Agro-hydro-climatic Characteristics of the Main Rainy Season in the Countries of the Gulf of Guinea (PRESAGG - 2026).
Recommandations
Actors in different sectors are advised to pay attention to updates that will be made by the national meteorological and hydrological services, AGRHYMET CCR-AOS and ACMAD, throughout the rainy season.
Seasonal forecasts are based on, among other things, the analysis of the current situation and probable evolutions of Ocean Surface Temperatures (OST), forecasts from global climate centers, statistical analyses of data from National Meteorological and Hydrological Services (NMHSs), and expert knowledge of the climate characteristics in the Gulf of Guinea area
Participatory and Consensus-Based Approaches
Strengthen community participation: Involve farmers, local authorities, and other stakeholders in water management planning and decision-making. Create water management committees: These local committees would ensure the equitable distribution and rational use of water resources.
Adoption of Modern Technologies
Implementation of smart irrigation systems: Promote drip irrigation and weather-based technologies to optimize water use. Deployment of remote sensing tools and mobile applications: These tools enable precise monitoring of water levels and crop needs in real time.
