Strategic Axis 3: Food and Nutrition Security
For decades, CILSS, its member countries, and various partners have gained experience in combating desertification, the effects of climate change, and food and nutrition insecurity through multiple initiatives, including PRGDT, BRICKS, IREM/LCD, FERSOL, FFEM/CC, AMESDD/MESA, Africalead/INSAH, GCCA, ENRACCA-WA, and ongoing projects such as FSRP, CLIMSA, GFCS, PRAPS, PEPISAO, among others. These initiatives have generated data, information, and knowledge that must be capitalized on to guide decision-making and make future interventions more effective. These include:
- The catalog of best practices for sustainable soil fertility management produced under the FERSOL project;
- The catalog on sustainable land management produced under the PRGDT project;
- The catalog of resilience best practices produced under the P2RS project;
- The catalog of agroecological best practices produced under the GCCA+ project.
Knowledge management and sharing tools have also been developed:
- The knowledge management platform on climate change and sustainable land management developed with the FFEM-AOC project;
- The webmapping tool on soil fertility knowledge (FERSOLMAP) developed with the FERSOL project;
- The CILSS digital library and integrated geoportal developed with the PREDIP, PARIIS, and GCCA+ projects;
- The flood forecasting model developed with FANFAR;
- SARRAH for crop yield forecasting;
- etc.
The objective is to capitalize on all this generated knowledge and developed tools within CILSS activities to guide decision-making and enhance the effectiveness of investment actions in the intervention areas of CILSS member countries in West Africa and the Sahel.
